Greg's Guitars:
Greg currently uses 3 main guitars.
a white 1971 Strat strung fairly heavily 11,14,18,36,46,60 and tuned down a half step to E flat. This is the main guitar used as the single coil tone suits a lot of the blues/rock material.
the old faithful 1972 Tele Thinline which has been used live for years and features on many original recordings. The original bridge pickup was changed to a Seymour/Duncan soon after purchase and the neck pickup is original. This guitar is strung with TNT's 10-52.
Epiphone 1958 Flying V Korina Wood re-issue .I've replaced the pickups with Gibson 57's and it sounds creamy and fat just like a classic early Gibson.
Greg's Amps and Effects:
Most shows I use an early 70's Fender Twin which sounds amazing and for outdoor concerts I run an early 70's Fender Dual Showman with 15" EV speakers together with the Twin using an ART Coolswitch AB box switching system.
I still have my early 70's Marshall JMP head and Celestion box which gets used occasionally. This amp features on most early recordings and live shows. The live at Belmont record had a ridiculously loud 3 amps all running simultaneously.
The Marshall JMP, Fender Twin and a Mesa Boogie.I ran the Boogie and Twin together then ran that combo and the Marshall into a stereo chorus to get it all working together.I used the stereo chorus effect a lot more in the 80's.
Effects are all analogue and include:
Boss Blues Driver BD-2,Boss Digital Delay DD-3,Boss Guitar Graphic Equaliser GE-7(used as a fairly clean pre-amp), an old Tube Driver from Tube Works USA,Boss Tuner GT-12,Cry Baby Wah Wah pedal and an old Mister Cry Baby wah wah that has a great overdrive switch that I just use as a pre-amp because of the tone.
I've been known to use a bit of Ibanez Flanger FL-9 and Chorus but only sparingly and I occasionly use a black Boss Metal Zone MT-2 for that modern High-gain sound when needed.
This array of pre-amps enables me to get anything from clean tones to Jimi Hendrix thru to Pantera if I want but I tend to stay in classic rock overdrive rather than metal tones which I find too mushy and unclear for my taste.
